Russian Russian literature historian and folklorist Orest Fyodorovich Miller (1833-1889) wrote a huge study of "Ilya Muromets and the Kievan bogatyrstvo - comparative and critical observations on the stratified composition of the Russian folk epic". This is a major book for two and a half decades (before the "Essays"). The Russian epos was the main work on the Russian epic. It contains a large amount of material, compares variants for many epics, and provides Western European and especially Slavic Parallels. In methodological terms, the book was a guide to the archaic theories of the so-called "mythological school" of Grimm, Kuhn and max Mueller, a direction of folklore that sought in oral literature to reflect primitive beliefs. Russian Russian peasant image of Ilya Muromets is interpreted with extreme idealization of the Russian antiquity and the Russian peasantry. SP
