Child care physiological and moral by A. Combe, the Queen of England's physician and Practical instructions on the mental and physical education of children at home and at school by Professor Dr. K. Bock
translated from English and German. 4th ed.
Saint Petersburg, Moscow Ed. M. O. wolf's bookseller, 1878 [4], VIII, 397, [1], IX p. Hardcover, 18.2 ×13 cm. The cover and spine are separate from the block.
Andrew Combe (1797-1847) was a Scottish physician and physiologist. In 1817, he studied medicine in Edinburgh and Paris, where he also attended lectures by the French zoologist, botanist, and evolutionist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. Younger brother of George Combe (1788-1858), author of popular works on phrenology.
As the author himself points out in the Preface to this book, a lot of essays on child care have been written, but almost all of them say very little about the General care of newborns, only in the form of an introduction to the description of children's diseases. Therefore, these essays can only serve as a guide for people with special knowledge or experience, otherwise they can harm the child.
The book by E. Combe can be considered as a practical guide that was designed to help parents who have a baby, and inexperienced doctors, to learn the main principles of newborn care and protect them from gross mistakes.
The book details the principles of breastfeeding and nutrition of children in subsequent periods of development, rules for caring for healthy and sick children, depending on age, as well as recommendations for moral education of children in infancy and childhood.
