אלי שילר - (1938-2018) היה חוקר ירושלים וארץ ישראל, מורה דרך, עורך, מייסד ובעלים של הוצאת אריאל ומחברם של עשרות מאמרים.
שילר פרסם במסגרת ההוצאה וכתב העת "אריאל" רק חומרים מקוריים, שלא פורסמו קודם, כתובים בנוסח שווה לכל נפש ב"תפר שבין אקדמי לפופולרי, מדויק, מעמיק, אבל לא אקדמי ומתרחק". כמו כן עסק שילר באיתור, תרגום ופרסום ספרות עולי רגל ותיירים לארץ ישראל
