הספר נכתב על ידי שני החוקרים שזכו לתעד לראשונה את קשת וילסון הנקראת על שם אחד מהם.

קשת רובינסון היא כינויו של מחלף מדורג ששכן בכניסה להר הבית בירושלים, בימי בית המקדש השני. המחלף אפשר להולכים מחוץ להר הבית, במפלס הרחוב הנמוך, לעלות ולהיכנס למפלס הר הבית הגבוה. קשת רובינסון נחשבת לאחד המֶחְלָפִים הראשונים בעולם.
במהלך המיפוי התחיל וילסון לעסוק בחפירות ארכאולוגיות. הוא היה הראשון לרשום ולתעד באופן מדעי ומדויק ממצאים סביב להר הבית ובמיוחד את קשת וילסון, חלק מגשר שחיבר את הר הבית עם העיר העליונה. למרות שוילסון לא גילה את הקשת אלא רק תיעד אותה היא נקראת על שמו. הוא גם קיבל רשות מהשלטונות לרדת לתוך בורות ופירים בהר הבית והיה הראשון (ובמקרים מסוימים גם האחרון) שתעד אותם.
