Lithographic Micrography Made by R. Yaakov Sofer. Tiberius, [1887]. Rare.
'Queen Ester' with the entire text of the Megillah, a rare micrography from the 19th century.
Micrographic works such as this one were sent to encourage donations or express gratitude for them. With a text on the lower part of the page, the artist signed his name: Yaakov Sofer of Tiberius.
Only few works by Yaakov Sofer are known of. Apparently, he was a Jewish Algerian artist who immigrated to Eretz Yisrael, operating in Algeria and Tiberius in the late 19th century.
In an additional micrography made by him (Yonah the Prophet's Ship), the artist detailed 4 micrographic works made by him: "picture of Yonah's ship, Rashbi, Ester, Yehudit, 1891".
