"Triumph of the Virtues"
A sermon delivered by Rabbi David Hacohen da Zivido, the Chacham of the Portuguese community of Amsterdam, for the birthday of Wilhelm V, Stadtholder of Holland, Prince of Orange and Nassau. On March 8, 1788, following a struggle in Holland between the Patriots who dreamt of a democratic regime and the Orangists who supported the Prince having wide powers, the community announced its loyalty to the Orangists. The Prince rewarded it by a visit to the Snoge - the synagogue of the community, a visit for which, apparently, this congratulatory speech was given. Portuguese and some Hebrew.
