The Personal Machzor of the Holy Mekubal Rabbi Yosef Irgas- Student of R' Emmanuel Chai Riki

With Kavanot, Additions and Comments in his Holy Handwriting.

"HaShomer Emmunim Hakadmon". Rw Irgas studied the wisdom of Kabbalah with Rabbi Binyamin HaCohen Vitali, student of Rabbi Moshe Zacuto. He was one of the greatest fighters against Shabbeteanism, and father of the Kabbalistic method "Tzimtzum lo KePeshuto".

Machzor Sepharadim for Yamim Noraim [Amsterdam, 1706] – "Machzor Sepharadim for Yamim Noraim, and Seder Selichot for Leilei Ashmorot. Seder Tefillot for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur".

A rare Machzor – not in the National Library, where there is a photocopy only of the Valmadonna Trust Library which lacks several leaves in its middle. Not listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book.

This Machzor was the personal Machzor of the Mekubal Rabbi Yosef Irgas from which he prayed on the Yamim Noraim - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

The Machzor contains dozens of Kavanot, additions, comments and corrections handwritten by him. In some places, he changes or corrects the version as well as the order of the Teki'ot. In others, he adds words to the version of the prayer.

On page 76a, Rabbi Yosef Irgas introduces a Kavanah based on the Ari for Kedusha of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and for Ne'ilah.

On page 120a, he introduces the custom of Livorno not to say Avinu Malkeinu on Sabbath.

On page 121a, Rabbi Yosef adds additional Viduyim to the Al Chet Viduy of the Aravit prayer of Yom Kippur.

On page 249b-150a, Rabbi Yosef adds Bakashot and Tachanunim to the Piyyut of Mussaf of Yom Kippur.

The Mekubal Rabbi Yosef Irgas (1685-1730), author of Shomer Emunim: one of the leading sages of Italy, a great Gaon, so much so that the greatest Acharonim – the author of the Mishneh Lamelech and the author of the Machaneh Ephraim – wrote of him: "And all the people at the gate did not deviate from him either to the right or to the left" (Shut Divrei Yosef the end of Siman 39). He fiercely fought Nechemya Chayun, authoring the book Hatzad Nachash (London, 1715) against him. Some of his praises were written by his leading disciple, the author of Yad Malachi, in the foreword to Shut Divrei Yosef.

With additional glosses in a different hand.
