Item Overview
Description:
Sefer Yesod: 'Pesakim u'Ketuvim' by Rabbi Yisrael Isserlin, author of 'Terumat HaDeshen'. Venice [1546]. A Splendid Copy from the Lunzer Collection (Valmadonna Trust Library).
By Rabbi Yisrael Isserlein, may his memory be blessed, author of Terumat HaDeshen.
This is the second edition of the book, released with the book Terumat HaDeshen and also printed separately.
The title page bears an unidentified signature, and on several pages, there are handwritten notes by an unidentified hand.
Rabbi Yisrael Isserlin, author of Terumat HaDeshen (1450-1460): He was one of the foremost Ashkenazi sages and prominent figures of the era. He engaged in a scholarly discourse with the Mahari"l, Mahari Weil, and Maharam Mintz, who praised him.
His book Terumat HaDeshen is among the most important foundational books upon which Rabbi Yosef Karo based the Shulchan Aruch and the Rema based his glosses.
The second part before us, separately printed - 'Piskei u'Ketavim' - consists of questions and answers on Jewish law and practice. These are questions posed by others, to which he provided answers based on Jewish law and practice, therefore, it has a greater legal validity (Shach, Yoreh Deah 196:20, and Shem Hagedolim 10;402).
Venice [1546]. Printed by the partners Justinian and Cornelio Adelkind.
77 leaves. 23 cm.
An excellent copy. Bound in a luxurious leather cover and kept in a cloth-covered box. Owner's signature and a few handwritten corrections
