Chafetz HaShem of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh. Amsterdam, 1732. First Print During the Author’s Lifetime. The First Book the Author Printed.
This is a famed composition of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, containing novellae on tractates Brachot, Shabbat, Horiyot and Chullin.

Includes a most unique introduction in which the author details his trials, tribulations and wanderings, and his method of study. The Ohr HaChaim also includes a sharply worded message against those who don’t study his book altruistically.

This is the first book that the Ohr HaChaim published at the age of 36!

The Book’s Printing:
In 1730, when the Ohr HaChaim was 35 years old, his writings were prepared and ready for printing. The Ohr HaChaim set out on a journey to a various Moroccan cities to garner approbations for his book about to be published, as was necessary in those days. Indeed, he received endorsements from Morocco’s leading sages including the Rabbis of Salé and of Rabbi Yehudah ben Attar and Rabbi Yaakov Ibn Tzur. The Ohr HaChaim continued on his mission, and set sail to Europe, arriving eventually in Amsterdam, home to the Jewish printing press of Shlomo Proops. He garnered the approbations of both the Ashkenazi Bet Din Rabbis Yosef Ber and Moshe Frankfurt, as well as the Sephardi Bet Din Rabbis David Yisrael Attias and Yitzchak Chaim Ibn Dana di Briton. Armed with these valuable endorsements, the Ohr HaChaim returned to Morocco.

Rabbeinu Chaim ben Attar, (1696-1743), The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh was revered as a leading and most saintly Torah sage. The Ba’al Shem Tov is known to have lauded his holiness and saintliness. The Ohr HaChaim’s holy writings received great prominence. He emigrated to the Holy Land where tragically he passed away in his prime.
