Historical Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Nachum Weidenfeld, "Chazon Nachum, " to the Chief Rabbi, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak HaLevi Herzog, Regarding the Establishment of a Public Fast Day Following Recent Events. 28th of Menachem Av, 5698 (1938).

In the letter, the esteemed Gaon Chazon Nachum addresses "the Cedar of Lebanon, exalted and lifted high, by the grace of God, the great Gaon, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog, Shlita, the Chief Rabbi of the Holy Land, may it be rebuilt and established soon." He aligned with the opinion of Rabbi Herzog regarding the establishment of a public fast day, prayers of forgiveness, supplications, following the bloodshed events that occurred in the Holy Land during that period due to the Arab riots. He assumed that Rabbi Herzog surely consulted with the Association of Rabbis in Warsaw or with the great rabies in Israel. "To establish a fast day on the first day of 'Slichot', the day of forgiveness that comes upon us for good, may He have mercy on the remnant of Israel with Him, and from this distress, may salvation come to the people if Israel, redemption for the world, amen so be it."

The letter was written 5 weeks before the Arab massacre in Tiberias, on 2 October 1938.
