A special and rare lot: Five Kabbalistic Silver Amulets. Middle East, 19th century.
Five special and rare handmade silver kabbalistic amulets, to be worn on the body for protection. Two of the amulets were made to be tied around the upper arm; the other three to hang around the neck.

Cast, soldered and engraved silver. Especially fine engraving adorns the arm amulets.

Since ancient times, human beings have sought and found diverse ways to protect themselves from troubles, diseases, bad luck or the evil eye. One of the common means of doing so was to carry or wear objects that were considered sacred and thus capable of guarding and protecting. Foremost among these apotropaic objects were those that contained, or were inscribed with, important religious texts – as are these five kabbalistic amulets.
