Silver Torah Ornament Set. Kassel, Germany, 19th century. Belonging to HaRav Ya'akov Koppel Bennett.
A classic set – Torah crown and shield, hand crafted in Kassel, Germany, during the 19th century.

The Torah crown is designed in a rounded form, with eight arms bearing hammered ornament and decorative protruding circles. The crown's base is stamped with the city mark of Kassel and the makers mark.

The Torah shield shows a classic, square-shape with an arched upper section. It is made of a thick and heavy sheet of silver, upon which are fastened various decorative elements, all made of silver.

On the sides of the Torah shield, along its entire length, are two spiral columns, supported by architectural bases and surmounted by a pair of rampant lions holding a large symbol of the Tablets of the Covenant, engraved with the first words of Ten Commandments. The base of the shield is adorned with a curtain-like ornament from which hang four silver pendants and a bell.

The lower portion of the shield carries an engraved owner's inscription that connects this beautiful item with one of the eminent members of Chassidei Gur - HaRav Ya'akov Koppel Bennet and his wife, Mrs. Gittel.
