Kiddush Cup and Spice Container of the "Baal Mofet"- the "Cherkasser"- Rebbe Yaakov Yisrael Twersky of Cherkas.
The Cherkasser Rebbe Personal Set.
Ukraine, ca. 1840
An exceptional silver goblet and Havdalah spice container, hand-crafted by a Ukrainian silversmith, likely in the region of Galicia, during the first half of the 19th century. Along the upper rim of the goblet is an engraved Hebrew inscription from the period, attesting that it belonged to the illustrious Rebbe Yaakov Yisrael of Cherkas – son of Rebbe Mordechai of Chernobyl (The Chernobler Maggid), and considered a wonderworker and a holy man.

Rebbe Yaakov Yisrael Of Cherkas:
Rebbe Yaakov Yisroel Twerski, founder of the Hornosteipel dynasty, was the third son of the Chernobler Maggid - Rebbe Mordechai Twersky. Rebbe Mordechai's father, Rebbe Menachem Nachum Twersky of Chernobyl (author of Meor Einayim and founder of The Chernobyl Hasidic dynasty), was a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism. Rebbe Yaakov Yisroel Twerski later moved to the city of Cherkasy, Ukraine, leaving the leadership of the city of Hornostaypil with his grandson, Rebbe Mordechai Dov.

Provenance: Collection of Avraham Halpern.
