Ir Giborim. Copy Owned by Rabbi Gavriel Grombach With Most Intriguing Notation! Basel, 1580. First Edition.

Kli Yakar’s first homiletic compostiiong. Rare!

Complete copy of the book, Ir Girborim, authored by the Kli Yakar, Rabbi Ephraim Lunschitz. This is Rabbi Lunschitz’s first published composition, and contains ethics and homiletics, according to the order of the weekly Parshah.

Although the author lived in Prague, interestingly the book was printed in Basel, Switzerland. On the title page this is a point of focus. The printer thanks Rabbi Mordechai son of Moshe HaLevi of Prague for the efforts he made in bringing this book to print, traveling from Prague to Basel a number of times, for this purpose.
Handwritten owners’ signature on the title page of Rabbi Gavriel Grombach, Rabbi of the Offhallen community.

The endpaper features a most interesting, handwritten notation regarding the Rabbi’s obligation to study this book on Shabbatot.

Winograd, Basel 166.
