Krovetz Machzor. Amsterdam, 1670.
Very Rare. Not Seen In Public Auctions.

This is a Machzor with Krovot (Krovetz), Yotzrot and Prayers for the Days of Awe (Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur. With translation into the Ashkenaz language in Tzena Ure’ena (Hebrew) letters.

Krovah / Krovetz.
’Krovah’ is a set of piyyutim intended to be recited by the leader of the services during the repeat version of the Amidah (silent) prayer.
Throughout the generations great prominence was given to the ‘Krovah’ piyut. During the 6th-8th Centuries, many Paytanim (Liturgical Poets), Yanai and Rabbi Eleazar Ben Kalir, in particular, focused on composing Krovot. Hence, this time period was referred to as ‘Tekufat HaKrovah’ by Menachem Zulai.
There are various categories of the Krovah, matching to the number of blessings present in the particular silent prayer it accompanies. (The 18-blessing or 7-blessing prayer.)

Krova also refers to the composer of the Krovot piyyutim.
Ashkenazim sometimes refer to the Krovah as ‘Krovetz’. Some suggest this is an acronym for: “Kol rinah viyeshua beohalei tzadikim”. Others maintain that the name Krovetz was simply a distortion of the original name of the prayer, ‘Krovot’.
