Ezrat HaSofer - Tikkun Sofrim. Punctuated Edition. Amsterdam, 1767-1769. Original, Leather Binding.

The book, Ezrat HaSofer is comprised of ‘Tikkun Sofrim Vavei HaAmudim, Five Books of the Torah with Haftorot, with glosses of Ohr Torah of Rabbi Menachem de Lonzano.


This edition, unlike others printed in the same time period, includes punctuation, cantillation marks and chapter numbers.

Each section has two title pages. The first is illustrated. The Haftorot section has an additional title page.
At the beginning of the book of Bereishit (between the page prior to the title page and the title page itself, appear printed approbations, and poems lauding the book and its editor. Following these, the composition ‘Meir Nativ’ is printed. This work deals with the holy and mundane names in the Torah; authored by Rabbi Yehudah Pisa.

At the conclusion of the book of Devarim the Haftorah for Shabbat Eichah is printed, with an interlinear Spanish translation.

‘Luchot HaIbbur’ with a separate title page, that includes calendar tables for determining festival dates for 112 years, in Hebrew and Portuguese.

The songs of Parshiyot Beshalach and HaAzinu are printed with wide folded margins, as per the custom for how they are written in a Torah scroll.

Additional, illustrated title pages in all volumes, detailing the year 5529. The other title pages write, 5527. The Haftorot sections at the back of each volume, each have separate title page, detailing the year, 5528.

Five volumes in magnificent original, leather binding, with gilt embossing and decorations. Original, colorful endpaper.

The Chumash of Ezrat HaSofer is a most precise work, expertly proofread and edited by Rabbi Yehudah Pisa of Amsterdam. It was designed for use as a reference for scribes, according to the custom that each column of a Sefer Torah begins with a ‘vav’.

Complete copy, with all tables and title pages. A total of 15 title pages!
