Shem Yaakov. Frankfurt an der Oder, 1716. Rare

Includes Kabbalistic Homiletics and Ethics, Arranged According to Topics. Authored by Rabbi Yaakov, Posek in Lobsens, son of Rabbi Yechezkel Segal of Zlatvy.

The title page is illustrated with a beautiful depiction of Yosef HaTzaddik, viceroy of Egypt meeting his father, Yaakov Avinu. In the center of the scene are two figures embracing, (Yosef on the left and Yaakov on the right). Yosef’s chariot, soldiers bearing spears, as well as animal’s bearing Yaakov’s entourage appear in the illustration.

This illustration first appeared in books printed in the prominent printing house of Joseph Attias, Amsterdam. It was later copied on title pages printed in other locations including Berlin, Frankfurt an der Oder and Prague.

The Librarian and bibliographer, Avraham Ya’ari writes in his book, ‘Diglei HaMadpisim HaIvri’im’ (Jerusalem 1944) that this illustration was very well received, and was therefore copied many times over.
