An Elegant Silver-Gilt Torah Pointer. Germany, Johann Alois Suffer 1810

An early and special Torah pointer, made by an expert silversmith, probably in Germany at the end of the 18th century or beginning of the 19th century. The pointer was designed and made by hand, and consists of four silver parts, all gilt, that attach to one another by way of screws.

The elegant form of this Torah pointer is comprised of mostly-smooth surfaces, with minimal ornamentation. The upper portion is decorated with thin engraved vertical lines, while the lower section is softly-faceted. The large knob that connects them is embraced on either side by a foliate band. The pointer's hand is significant in size, and extends a curled index finger towards the holy text of the Torah Scroll.

28.5 cm (length). 154 gr. Marked.

An elegant, high-quality silver-gilt Torah pointer.
