Property of The Great Gaon HaChassid Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna during his lifetime.
First edition. Property of The Great Gaon HaChassid Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna during his lifetime.
The second book of Responsa of the Rashach – Rabbi Shlomo ben Avraham HaKohen.
Venice. Printed by Joan di Gara. 1592.
Some pages were printed in Salonika.
Computerized Jewish Book Otzar: Item no. 42030.
See notes regarding section printed in Salonika.
On the cover page, inscribed in 18th century Ashkenazi writing: “This book belongs to the Great Gaon.” Undoubtedly, this was written in his lifetime, since the extra words zt”l or any other descriptions written after a Tzaddik’s passing do not appear here. On pages 23 and 68 are signatures “Property Of Rabbeinu HaGaon Rabbi Eliyahu Vilna’s Beit Medrash”.
It is likely that this book was used by HaGaon HaTzaddik HaChassid Rabbi Eliyahu ben Shlomo Zalman of Vilna. After his passing, the book was transferred to the library of the Beit Medrash of the Gaon of Vilna. The black square-shaped signature that appears on the cover page and second page is signed “The Gra z”l”.
Rabbi Shlomo HaKohen – the MaHarshach, was born in 1512, (or in 1535 according to other opinions). He was a pupil of Rabbi Avraham HaKohen of Salonika, and a colleague of the Halachic authorities, the Marivel and Mahashadam. He died 1601.
This item is the second part of his book; first edition copy.
Beautiful copy. Also included is the part printed in Salonika. New binding. Minor restoration on the cover page.
