RARE CHARLES DICKENS OLIVER TWIST FIRST EVER HEBREW TRANSLATION WARSAW 1924
This is a rare copy of Charles Dickens` Oliver Twist, in its first ever translation to Hebrew, done in Warsaw 1924 for the Sztybel publishing house.
This is the 4th ever Dickens title translated to Hebrew.
It is worth to remind that Hebrew was not used as a living everyday language for hundreds of years, until the Jewish Enlightenment movement revived it, at first using Biblical Hebrew and later using all many layers of the existing Hebrew and renewing and inventing new words and updating the language.
Condition: Flaws to original cloth hardcover, with loss to cloth; front endpaper and half title have small piece missing; book itself is intact and in good condition with some staining.
