Lentulov Aristarch Vassilievich (1882, the Penza Region – 1943, Moscow).

Studied at the Penza Arts School named after N.D. Seliverstov (1898-1900 and 1905), the Kiev Art School (1900-1904) and then at the D.N. Ksrdovsky Studio in Saint-Petersburg (1906-1910).
Traveled to France and Italy (1911), visiting in Paris the La-Palette Academy, having taken the lessons from the cubists J. Metsenje and A. La-Focogne. One of the founders and member of the ‘Diamond Jack’ Association (1910).
Within the ‘Diamond Jack’ was trying to synthesize the experience of cubism, fovism and the impressions caused by the works of Sezainne and created a special type of the futuristic panel. At he later period of his working life managed to overcome the graphical decorativeness of the earlier works, approaching to the pure painting and started working mainly on the landscapes. Worked as well as a scenographer, designing the play ‘Prometheus’ by A.N. Skriabin at the Bolshoi Theater (1918) and ‘Spanish priest’ by D.Fletcher at the 2nd Moscow Arts Academic Theater (1934).
Was teaching at the VKhUTEMAS Higher School of Arts and adjacent institutes in 1919-1943.
Works of A.V. Lentulov are kept at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and in all larger museums of our country.
