Butov Aleksey Ivanovich (1935, Orel region – 1993, Ioshkar-Ola).
Honoured Art Worker of Mary ASSR. He is a recipient of the of the Prize of the USSR Artists Union and the Komsomol Central Committee of 1963. In 1959 he left Eletsk Art College, where V.A. Dudchenko, V.C. Sorokin, N.N. Marevsky, A.M. Korr were his teachers. He participated in regional, zonal, republican, and all-union exhibitions. A.I. Butov’s works are shown in museums in Samara, Saransk, Ioshkar-Ola, Kozmodemiansk, in private collections in Russia and abroad. His painting, Mariyka at the Well, is in the Madrid National Museum. He had one-man shows in Ioshkar-Ola in 1976 and 1986.
