The OMZSA Haggadah - Numbered copy. Budapest, 1942

Passover Haggadah, published by: Orszagos Magyar Zsido Segito Akcio - OMZSA, Budapest, 1942. Hungarian and Hebrew. The Haggadah published in the midst of World War II under the Hungarian rule of the Nazi oppressor's ally.

Haggadah published by the Relief Society for Hungarian Jews. This edition includes an introduction, notes, article on the art of Haggadah illustration, ancient reproductions, and musical notes. Copy number 222 out of a 900-copy edition, with three signatures of the authors and artists.

The Haggadah published in Hungary while Hungarian anti-Semitism was given renewed momentum and the demand to solve the Jewish problem came from both right-wing and pro-Nazi parties and also by church leaders. In March 1939, the alliance between Hungary and Nazi Germany was strengthened with the conquest of the Czech Republic by Hitler, while at the same time Hungary occupied Carpetorus. In April 1939, Hungary retired from the League of Nations and about a month later the Second Jewish Law was enacted which further expanded the racial definition of the term 'Jew'. In the troubled times, there is a special inscription used as an introduction to the Haggadah in which the publishers write: "The Relief Society for Hungarian Jews publishes the Haggadah in the year 1942 to act with the signs of the exodus and its wonders and to direct it to the wonder of redemption ...
