Two signed vouchers from the Lodz ghetto given to the poor after a doctor's visit

TALON dla bidnych chorych - Two signed vouchers from the Lodz ghetto given to poor people after a doctor's visit. Both have an ink stamp of the Judenrat in the Lodz ghetto.

Poor living conditions in the ghettos, a lot of morbidity, especially infectious diseases in both endemic and epidemic outbreaks, hunger for its various manifestations and high mortality rate - all require the establishment of a medical system that can cope with the harsh environmental characteristics, prevent epidemics and diseases, treat patients and to maintain the health of the ghetto residents. The Jewish Council in the Lodz ghetto established a health department headed by Hillman. Medical activity concentrated on preventing infectious diseases and epidemics by distributing ghetto to areas, and a nurse, physician and auxiliary forces were assigned to each area. The hospitalization system included four hospitals operating in Lodz even before the occupation, and in 1941 two more were established. The main problems were the eruption of the clarification epidemic in the spring of 1940, which was suppressed by the extensive activity of the Department of Health and the dysentery epidemic. On September 1, 1940 at 04:00, all the patients and staff were taken out of the hospitals and shot in the woods, and thus came the end to the medical organization in the Lodz ghetto.

Same size: 15x10 cm. Good condition.
