A photograph of two poor Jewish children in Vilnius (Vilna) in 1928, by photographer Moshe Vorovichik (Raviv). Signed on the back with the photographer's stamp, "Moshe Raviv, Tel-Aviv", Described and dated in Raviv's handwriting.

The photo before us appears in Reviv's book "The Street of Jews in Vilnius". There, Raviv chose to cut the photograph and in fact only the child and only the boy on the right is shown there. Before us, the complete original photograph with the two kids as originally photographed.

Moshe Vorovichik [Raviv 1904-1995]: The first Jewish photographers in the field of photomontage and contrast. In his youth he studied at the first Hebrew gymnasiya in the Diaspora in Vilnius And continued his studies at the University of Vilnius in the Department of Arts and Architecture. In 1928 he was admitted to the Bauhaus in Dassau, Germany, where he studied with Joseph Albers and Paul Kelle, Whose principles have guided him throughout his years of operation. His photography activity began in 1929 when he bought the Leica camera and start taking pictures. His first photographic book, "The Street of the Jews in Vilnius" was published in 1931, That year he formulated a unique photographic concept named "Ci-Contre" [opposite - a confrontation of photographs based on a similar and opposite principle]. Raviv published his book "Paris" which contained rare photographs and photomontages, under the name Moi Ver (Moi = Moses Ver = Vorovichik in his French name). About a year later, Raviv was sent by the French photography magazine "Vu" to edit a special coverage article in Eretz Yisrael and circulated the country, documenting the pogrom in Jaffa and other important events in the history of Eretz Yisrael. Two years later, Raviv immigrated to Eretz Israel, and soon he was published mainly in his field thanks to the impressive design of the Histadrut 'Exhibition Building' at the Levant Fair. Raviv has curated books from many publishers, and designed and illustrated for many newspapers. In 1939, he exhibited a solo exhibition at the Katz Art Gallery - the first gallery in Tel Aviv. In the early 1950s, he joined the Safed Artists College, where he established his residence and later established a gallery. Raviv's works are considered the peak of the 20th century photography world, Mostly in the field of photomontage (for example, in his famous work 'The Tractor and the Workman' and many others), His books distributed in Paris and throughout Europe are now used as basic books in the history of photography.
