1948 interim / small locales in battle: undated German-language family correspondence cover from ROSH PINA (return addressed [Kibbutz] AMIAD - probably couriered) to Shikun Sablawi TEL AVIV ("Tell a viv") franked 10m per period letter rate using 4m & 6m Mandate pictorals ( this rare: not sold over the counter in interim period but perhaps in possession of sender in Amiad) & tied by full strike of scarce local Minhelet Haam cancel in black ( i.e. cover mailed between 2-14 May); handwritten notation "3322 Balfouria" on back; appears originally sent unsealed; horizontal fold at base (possible indication cover was couriered). Historically significant cover: Rosh Pina was secured by Jewish forces from 26 April until 4-5 May ( around the time this cover may have been sent), in Operations Yiftach and Matateh; Amiad was a tiny nearby locale reliant on Rosh Pina for its water supplies, founded 1946 by 28 members of Aliyat HaNoar ('Youth Aliya') organized into a Palmach force and probably affected by same 1948 military operations - locale originally intended to be a settlement for demobilized members of the Jewish Brigade. If cover transmitted during the military operations this may explain reference to moshav BALFOURIA (as improvised transit) on way to destination. Addressee locale is where former Jewish Brigade members settled and was later renamed " Yad Eliyahu" (in memory of Hagana commander Eliyahu Golomb) - here a rare reference on postal cover. Estimated value $450+
