Yarmulkah which Belonged to the Ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund

"It will be an adornment of grace on your head" (Mishlei 4:9)

Woolen kippah (yarmulkah) worn for many years by the ga"avad of the Edah HaCharedit, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund.

Books and oral tradition relate the well-known fact that all items which belonged to tzaddikim are a tried and true segulah. Most of all, a kippah - for a kippah is designated to increase fear of Heav-n, as it says in the gemara: "כסי ראשך כי היכא דתיהוי עלך אימתא דשמיא" ["Cover your head so that you will have fear of Heav-n"]. This is also the reason for the adornment of covering a baby's head with a tzaddik's kippah during his ritual circumcision. There are those who add that the root of the word yarmulkah ['ירמולקה'] is an abbreviation for fear of G-d ['ירא מאלו-ה']. Another virtue of a tzaddik's kippah is that he wears it throughout the entire day without a break, including during the most sublime and poignant moments.

Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund [1904-1996] was the ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit. He was born in Hungary to Rabbi Yisrael Freund, Av Beit Din of Hunyad, son of the Admo"r, the gaon, Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Freund of Nasod (1855-1932). Rabbi Moshe Aryeh lost his wife and ten children in the Holocaust. He served for a short time as rabbi of Satmar. He ascended to the Land of Israel and was appointed rosh yeshivah of Yitav Lev, the yeshivah of Satmar Chassidut in Jerusalem. He was appointed ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit in 1989. He served as Admo"r, presided over a community of Chassidim and conducted tisches. He was considered a gaon, a tzaddik, and a wonder-worker.

Diameter: 17 cm; very fine condition. Usage and sweat marks.

Signed confirmation included with a picture of the kippah attesting that this kippah belonged to Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund, and that he wore it over a lengthy period.
