The sefer Noam Elimelech, written by Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, includes a commentary on the Bible as well as several collections on pesukim, Talmud and midrashim. Also included is Likutei Shoshana and Igeres Hakodesh which is a response to his opponents written by the students of Rabbi Elimelech upon his request.

Throughout the generations, great chassidic leaders and admorim have spared no effort or expense in ensuring that this holy sefer be included in their possession, and the Sefer Noam Elimelech still remains the most sought after sefer by collectors of chassidic works.

It is known, that just having this sefer in one's home is a special segulah for protection as is placing it near the bed of a woman in labor.

Unlike later editions, this first edition is punctuated with asterisks (*). Great tzaddikim have revealed that there are deep, hidden meanings behind these asterisks and that they indicate places where Rabbi Elimelech merited revelation by Eliyahu Hanavi or had an aliyas neshamah.

This first edition was printed in Lvov in 1787 by his son Rabbi Eliezer Lipa upon his father's request: “And I was commanded from his holy and pure mouth that after his death I would see to bring it to the printing press, and so he said, ‘You have no greater mitzvah than this...’”

It is known that all those involved in the printing of this first edition were hidden tzaddikim who did their work with holiness and purity and with special spiritual intentions. It was printed in the printing press of Rabbi Shlomo Yarish Rappaport.
