A photograph of American astronaut James McDavit signed.


James Alton "Jim" McDivitt; Born 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. Brigadier General of the United States Air Force, space pilot in the Apollo and Gemini program. Commander of the Apollo mission March 9, 1969. In May 1969 he was appointed director of lunar landing operations, and led a team that planned the lunar research program, and redesigned the spacecraft to accomplish this mission. In August of that year he was appointed director of the Apollo spacecraft program, and was program director of Apollo 12, 13, 14, 15 and Apollo 16. In January 1981, he was appointed senior vice president of strategic management at Rockwell. This company has previously manufactured the Saturn 5 engines, and the space shuttle. McDavit won countless Honorary degrees, and medals for his contribution to the world of aerospace.
