ANTI-MISSIONARY SERMON BY BRITISH CHIEF RABBI - RABBI SHLOMO HIRSCHEL, CHIEF RABBI OF ENGLAND. LONDON 1807. RARE.

Printed sermon delivered at the Great Synagogue in Dukes Place, London in 1807, by Chief Rabbi Shlomo Hirschel, sharply attacking the missionary attempts by the London Society for promoting Christianity among the Jews and warning his congregants against sending their children to its school or Sunday school.
‘...I must warn our people that nobody should dare to send their sons or daughters to the Jewish Free School for Poor Jews’ or to its Sunday School. If anyone disobeys this warning, it shall be considered as if they have converted to another religion and shall lose the right to be known as a Jew, and shall lose all rights in the Synagogue, both in lifetime and in death. It is also the duty of every Jew to warn those who are not aware of the true facts, in order to save them from falling into this trap ...’
Very rare, Not in British Library or JNUL.
