"THEY FIGHT FOR YOU PROTECT THEM..." - A large poster in favor of the 'Allies of World War I' fighters

"THEY FIGHT FOR YOU PROTECT THEM HELP THE RED CROSS RAISE 100,000,000 AT ONCE". Design: W.G. SESSES. Latham Litho & Printing Co. New York 1917.

A large poster in a colorful lithographic print that came out during World War I, a wounded soldier against the background of the Statue of Liberty holding a torch in his hand, and a shield of the Red Cross.

The United States joined World War I alongside the Allies on April 6, 1917, about three years after the outbreak of the war, following the publication of the Zimmerman telegram. Though dragged into the war by the conspicuous reluctance of most of its citizens and leaders, it emerged from it in the end as the great victor, as a superpower economic and military, and as the moral leader of the Western world. The United States recruited and sent about a million troops to the Western Front in France as part of the U.S. Expeditionary Force under the command of Army General John Pershing. Although the military significance of the American force in combat was not great, the moral impetus given by the freshmen soldiers to their allies was decisive. At the end of World War I, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies was established to coordinate national organizations and mobilize international aid for disasters.
