"In the blood of my heart I write my words to him" - a difficult letter from the second aliyah man Yaakov Yaari Polskin


A hard letter in the handwriting and signature of Yaakov Yaari-Poleskin - the journalist, writer, and second aliyah man - in which Polskin complains about Tel Aviv Mayor Meir Dzingoff refusing to give him an exemption from rent in his difficult economic situation. The letter was sent to the Hebrew writer, and the person who served as a member of the first committee of the Tel Aviv city, David Smilansky, requested that he transfer the matter to Desingoff. Tel Aviv, May 3, 1932.


In his letter, Polskin complains about his difficult situation, and the Tel Aviv municipality's disregard for his requests for assistance: "In the blood of my heart I write my words to him." In his letter, Polskin complains that Meir Dizengoff refused to give him exempt from rent, and warns: "If I do not receive such a letter these days ... Read together with all the residents of Tel Aviv and the country the sad and terrible news about me in such version:" The writer Yaari-Polskin, who was also one of the first Hebrew workers in Tel Aviv at the establishment, and has been working for ten years on the collection of material for the history of the city of Tel Aviv and its builders, was thrown out of the apartment without paying his rent and what a Disgrace". and asks Mr. Smilansky to turn again to Dizengoff for help, and thus precede his own coming to Dizengoff which is: "Always immersed and preoccupied with thousands of things concerning the city and the municipality and has no time to go into the details of anything ...".


Yaakov Yaari-Poleskin [1887-1944], journalist, author and researcher about the history of the Land of Israel. In 1905, at the age of 19, he immigrated to Eretz Israel with the people of the Second Aliyah. He was a day laborer, a guard in Petah Tikva and other colonies. Participated in the establishment of the first workers' moshav in the country, Ein Ganim near Petah Tikva. In the years 1909-1910, after the founding of Tel Aviv, he participated in the construction of the Herzliya Gymnasium building, and worked to employ Jews according to the principle of "Hebrew labor". In 1922, his famous book 'Dreamers and Warriors' was published, which was common among teenagers, members of youth movements and Zionist organizations. Later he was a journalist for the newspapers Haaretz, Doar Hayom and more. Investigated the Nili affair and collected material on it.
