Six photographs of Jews in the ghettos of Poland - 1939-1940


Six photographs of Jews - mostly with armbands, in the Polish ghettos, and Jews captured by the Nazis. Photographed by SS soldiers and depicted on the back in handwriting. years: 1939-1940.


Photographs: a group of Jews with armbands walking in the street, and a Jewish carriage - the Lodz ghetto; Jews captured by Wehrmacht soldiers and detained in a circle until their sentence; Three Jews with armbands from the city of Kozienice in Poland; Two Jews with armbands; A group of Jews deported from their homes in Leipzig carrying their belongings; An old Jew from in a Polish town in 1940.


The Nazi newspaper Der Stürmer encouraged its readers to send it antisemitic material to be published in the letters section of the "Dear Stürmer" system. Private photos submitted have been saved in the system archive, and published with the addition of venomous antisemitic captions. (The most documented ghetto in private photography is the Warsaw Ghetto because the city is an important transit point for the German army on the way to the Eastern Front).
