Two handwritten diaries of an active in the Jewish Agency - giving of apartments and land to various parties - July-August 1949

Two handwritten diaries Active person in the Absorption Department of the Jewish Agency, including instructions regarding the registration of apartments for immigrants, registration of ownership of land, blocks and plots, and various benefits for familiars - July-August 1949. The diary shows the incredible ease with which decisions are made regarding the ownership transfer of apartments and land to various people, and the issuance of permits for land ownership, about a year after the establishment of the state. Each page in the diary is dated on a daily basis.

A diary on a daily basis, in which the writer - an activist in the Jewish Agency with a position on the "Neighborhood Committee", details various tasks regarding the reservation of apartments and land for various parties who were in contact with the Jewish Agency. For example, we find: "The Salomon family must be given a part of a land in the German colony for his father", "Yosef Koller the apartment originally was not possible for them because it is far away, only possible in the Greek colony Bakah ...", "Zeltzer received an apartment in the German colony Gush and part 10/143 and Metzger sent him to the office because he has a promise from Mr. Greenberg to give him in Abu-Tur when they start living", "Metzger recommended the Ben Arush families from Etzion and from private address to give them apartments in Musrara. For this purpose, Pickholtz and I visited the place.", " Plot 56 Occupied by Moshe Yaakov Hananel, Zak Hananel brought a letter from the Absorption Department to the Northern District ... approved for him the above apartment they received through the officer ... ", "I gave permission for the apartment to Cohen Yisrael who left the apartment before Three months and he is now back in Jerusalem. "

We also find additional instructions regarding the Transfer of ownership of lands: "Assulin Maxim TA 10/28/1948 - three people received an apartment by Greenberg and Polak at the end of November in the German colony ... and he requires permission ...", "Dr. Cohen Zius Yitzhak doctor in Ein Karem now lives in an apartment in area A, which is on the mountain and it is difficult for patients to access it, so he demands an apartment in another place that suits him so that he can receive the patients. An apartment in Ein Karem was recently vacated and Aharon did not want to give it to him ... " "Mendelovich received an apartment from us and left it, and invaded another apartment and asked for permission ...". One one the pages of the diary under the heading 'Agenda' appears: "To order that immigrants will receive from us when they enter for living where the service rooms and neighbors will be specified ... The apartments we give permission to write it down at our expense and bring if people come and ask for permission ..."

Greenberg, who is mentioned several times in the diary, is Chaim Greenberg [1889-1953] - a member of the Jewish Agency's board, the ideological leader of the Poalei Zion movement - headed the agency from 1946 until his death.

The diaries do not mentioned the author's name, but according to the extensive authority arising from the instructions detailed in it, it appears that he is one of the heads of the Jewish Agency.
