Mordechai Boxbaum [1898-1959] an ultra-Orthodox jurist and public figure. Was an aide to Bella Kun, a Jewish communist leader who served briefly as the leader of Hungary. He then studied with his uncle Rabbi Yehoshua Boxbaum in Galanta. After immigrating to Eretz Israel, he served as legal advisor to Agudat Israel. He was close to the greatest rabbis and public figures in Jerusalem, including Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, Rabbi Yosef Zvi Dushinsky, Dr. Moshe Wallach and others, as well as non-Jewish dignitaries. In the first Knesset elections, in early 1949, he headed the "Traditional Judaism List" which also included Amram Bloy (son of Rabbi Moshe Bloy) and Uriel Zimmer, who refused to participate with Agudat Israel on the united religious front. He was also close to the Breslav followers in Jerusalem and financed the construction of the "Breslav - Ohel Esther" synagogue (named after Boxboim's mother) in the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood.
