Eretz Israel - A healing country - Many photographs, 1928 - Early tourist booklet

Eretz Israel - Eretz Marpeh - A healing country- Accompanied by c. 70 unique photographs of leading sites in Eretz Israel. A special booklet intended to 'market' the Land of Israel to tourists in the Diaspora. The photographs and captions that appear in it have been carefully selected for this purpose. Published by the Society for Healing and Relaxing Places in the Land of Israel, edited by Shmuel Chernopolsky, Late 1920s. Hebrew and English.

The booklet written in 'attractive' language that gives the Land of Israel a status of 'mythological' status. for example we find on page 2:"The scientific investigations and experiments that have been carried out testify to the special relaxed properties of the beautiful landscape and the precious nature of the Land of Israel." Or for example: "The relaxation of the golden apples is the special part of the healing and relaxing places in the Land of Israel and this is also their advantage over other resorts" (p. 9). A special chapter is dedicated to tourist sites in the city of Tel Aviv ('Tel Aviv is a climatic healing place even in winter'), as well as in the 'Carnival in Tel Aviv' (the Adloyada procession) which took place in 1928. There is also a chapter on the establishment of the Hebrew University, tourist sites in Jerusalem, Jaffa, and more. The booklet is accompanied by countless advertisements for convalescent homes throughout the country and for Hebrew industrial manufacturers such as the Palestine Railway, the Joint Vineyards Association of Rishon Lezion and Zichron Yaacov Wineries, Yaakov Ben Dov Artistic Photography, Matzah Eretz Israel, Pik"a Jewish Settlement Society, Mikveh Israel Agricultural School, Palestine Banks, as well as some illustrations by Ephraim Moshe Lillian. at the beginning of the booklet Map of the Land of Israel.

It is interesting to note that since the booklet was intended for advertising and marketing the Land of Israel to foreign tourists, it does not reveal the other side of the country at all, such as swamps, the Arab enemy, absorption difficulties, etc. that were part of the country at the time it was printed.

One of the first publications published in the Land of Israel and dealing with the material qualities of the land and which were intended for foreign tourism.
