Letter from the Gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Yisrael Lubchansky
Letter from the gaon and tzaddik Rabbi "Yisrael Ya'akov" Lubchansky, mashgiach of the Baranovitch yeshivah.
The letter was sent to Rabbi Hillel Vitikind, leading disciple of the "Alter of Novardok, " and the one who founded many branches of the Novardok yeshivah in Poland, and then the Beit Yosef yeshivah in Tel Aviv. At the beginning of the leaf, there is a letter written from Rabbi Shmuel Shilovsky to Rabbi Hillel Vitkind. On the second half of the leaf, Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Lubchansky wrote his letter to Rabbi Hillel, continuing from the student's letter, in his hand and with his signature.
Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov Lubchansky was one of the mussar greats of his generation, known as the spiritual dean of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman's yeshivah. He was one of the first students at the yeshivah of Rabbi Yozel Horowitz, the Alter of Novardok, and eventually he even became his son-in-law. After his father's passing, he served as rabbi of Baranovitch, but his crowning glory was his service as the spiritual dean of the Baranovitch yeshivah, with Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman at its head. He was renowned for his deep mussar talks. His righteousness was famous, despite his attempts with all his might to conceal it. He was killed during the Holocaust together with Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman and the members of the yeshivah.
