BERTHIER LOUIS-ALEXANDRE: (1753-1815) Marshal of France, Prince of Neuchatel. Chief of Staff under Napoleon. An exceptional L.S., Alexandre, one page, 4to, Krasnoe, 21st October 1812, to the Duke of Dantzig, in French. Berthier sends a marching historic retreat order to the Imperial Guard infantry leaded by Marshal Lefebvre, instructing immediate retreat from Moscow, stating `Make all your troops depart through the route taken by the 4th corps and go to Ploskovo where most probably will be the Emperor´s headquarters this evening. The Prince of Neuchatel´ Napoleon left Moscow only two days earlier. Very small overall age wear and staining, otherwise VG £1000-1500 François Lefebvre (1755-1820) Marshal of France, Duc de Dantzig and Prince d´Essling.
