DECAEN CHARLES MATHIEU: (1769-1832) French General of the Revolutionary Wars. Governor General of Pondicherry and the Isle de France (actually Mauritius), and Commander of the Army of Catalonia during the Napoleonic Wars. Rare L.S., `Decaen´, one page, folio, Isle de France, Mauritius, 27th July 1808, in French. The document bears to the heading an extremely rare and large attractive vignette, showing a large crowned eagle, with the printed text beneath ''French Empire''. Decaen, on behalf of the Emperor of French and King of Italy, appoints Joseph Guyot Brigadier Gendarme. With a blind embossed seal alongside the signature. Very small minor age wear to the edges, otherwise about VG £500-800
