CARRIER JEAN BAPTISTE: (1756-1794) French Revolutionary and member of the Convention. Well-remembered for his infamous Drownings at Nantes (`Noyades de Nantes´). He was guillotined on 16th December. Rare D.S., `Carrier´, underlined, a large and bold good signature example, one page, folio, Ille-et-Villaine, n.d., [c.1793], to citizen Colliot, in French. The partially printed document bears the heading ''Les Représenants du Peule'' (''The Representatives of the People'') and is the appointment of citizen Colliot as member of the council, stating in part `We have no doubt that your patriotism will oblige you to accept a position occupied for too long by men unworthy of the name of Republicans. You owe the Republic the use of your talents; to refuse, would be a crime
´ Signed at the base by Carrier. With blank address leaf, bearing two halves of a red wax seal as a result of the opening. Overall age wear, mostly to the edges, otherwise G £1000-1500
