WESTERMANN FRANÇOIS JOSEPH: (1751-1794) French General of the Revolutionary Wars, a distinguished and courageous officer in the Vendée war, and a leading figure of the French Revolution. As a friend and partisan of Georges Danton, he was proscribed and guillotined. An excellent and rare A.L.S., `Le General de Brigade Westermann´, one page, folio, Paris, 26th July 1793, to the Representatives of the Sureté Generale Committee, in French. Westermann states `It has been ordered that all horses will be confiscated in Paris. I came here with 3 horses. The Friends of Homeland Section has taken my 3 horses, and have declared that they will not return them unless the Convention Sureté Generale Committee orders so. I beg you, as representatives, to order
´ Featuring an A.N.S., `Alquier´, to the upper left front corner, forwarding the request to the Minister of war. Folded, with small professional repair to the verso and edge. Small overall minor age wear, otherwise G £250-350 Charles-Jean-Marie Alquier (1752-1826) French Diplomat. He served as French Minister in several European capitals. President of the Criminal Tribunal of the Department of Seine et Oise, he was sent as their representative to the National Convention in 1792. In that Convention, he voted for the death of King Louis XVI.
