LECLERC DE HAUTECLOCQUE PHILIPPE: (1902-1947) French General during WWII. Appointed Marshal of France posthumously. Leclerc was killed in an air crash in Algeria. In May 1945 he was given command of the French Far East Expeditionary Corps. He represented France at the surrender of Japan. T.L.S., `Le Clerc´, one page, 4to, Paris, 7th July 1945, to Lieutenant-General W.H. Haislip, in French. Leclerc states in part `I have received your answer to the letter I had sent you concerning the promotion of Major Lumianski… he is now assigned to Liaison Section, USFET, and attached to my Staff, French Expeditionary Forces in the Far East.´ further adding `I have the honour of requesting you to be kind enough to intercede with the High Command in favour of his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.´ Signed at the base by Leclerc over an attractive ink stamp stating ''Division Blindée - Le General''. Accompanied by the original typed translation into English. Two binder holes and a very small area of paper loss to the upper border, none affecting the text. Very small overall age wear. G £300-400 Wade Hampton Haislip (1889-1971) United States Army Officer, a four-star General. He served both World War I and WWII. Haislip led the XV Corps in the Western Europe campaign 1944-45.
