Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Schwartz, from Grosswardein. Preparation letters for the publication of Zikaron l’Moshe on the Chassam Sofer, handwritten by the author, 1938

10 pages in the beautiful orderly handwriting of Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Schwartz, in preparation for his book on the Chassam Sofer to commemorate 100 years since his passing. These pages are a copy of the planned structure of the book and the approbations of the rabbis who supported the publication of the book, which was indeed published in Grosswardein in 1938.

10 pages (8 of them large), plus 2 typewritten pages. Very good condition.

Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Schwartz (1875-1944), was the son of Rabbi Naftali Schwartz, a leading rabbi in Hungary. Rabbi Yosef served as a dayan in Grosswardein and as rabbi of the Machzikei Torah congregation. Most of his literary work involved the editing of Vayilaket Yosef, a rabbinic literature journal published in Hungary for 20 years. In the course of this work he corresponded with the Torah giants of his generation and his name is mentioned in dozens of responsa books. He was murdered by the Nazis in Auschwitz.
