Der Korn und Wein - jud. An antisemitic engraving showing Jews in the carriage mounted by Devil. The carriage is filled with wine barrels and corn sacks, and other kinds of goods, riding forward and trampling all on their way. To the right is a fox dragging a poor group in his net. In the background wine taverns and active Jewish businesses. Germany, around 1629.
The engraving refers to the general shortage of basic food during the Thirty Years War, which is most evident in the lack of wine and corn. By 1629, the German crop was significantly damaged, creating a situation that wine traders and farmers were increasingly dependent on Jewish wine and corn traders who dictated the prices of goods. The Jews also controlled the production process and mobility, and were accused of selling and trading overpriced prices.
