Tray for Shabbat Challahs. Stamped Silver. Central Europe, Early 20th Century
Oval silver tray, designated for Shabbat challahs, made of hammerwork and cast forms of: two challahs, clusters of grapes, stars of David and various decorations; bearing the inscriptions: "Remember the Shabbat to sanctify it" ["זכור את יום השבת לקדשו"] and "In honor of the Holy Shabbat" ["לכבוד שבת קודש"]. Stamped 835.
This platter was made in the style of trays by the Jewish artist known as "Posen" in the late 19th century - early 20th century in Frankfurt.
Length: 42 cm. Width: 30 cm. Weight: 0.830 kg. Very fine condition. Usage marks.
