Early Israeli military Judaica: 1948-50 era pocket-sized copy of Sefer Tehilim (Psalms), issued "To the Soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces", no publication attribution given. Military issues of standard religious books were normally 'militarized' copies of civilian issue, just with a different cover but with essentially the same content and layout inside as a civilian copy available in the market. The estimated dating is based on the font style used. Thick blue-green cover with stapled binding, 114 pages; 8.4 x 11.7cm; intact & complete. The military Rabbinate was established at the end of 1948, superseeding the 'Religious Service' unit of the newly established Israeli Army; Rabbi Shlomo Goren was its first head.
