Binyan HaBayit. Unknown Work by Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Pozner - Landsberg . Autograph from C. Mid-19th Century

Order and conduct of prayer, education, choosing a wife and building a faithful home, which will be called Binyan Bayit by Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Pozner - Landsberg, superlative Torah scholar of great lineage.

"... whose content I clarified with my blessed grandsons, how to arrange joy and praise to Hash-m, meant to adhere well, to save them from the snare of joining together with the empty and reckless, to take strong workers and uncompromising hearts ..."

Approximately 70 pages, ink on paper. Autograph script. 17x21 cm. Reinforcements and stickers. The vast majority of the writing is clear and legible. Worming perforations in the last leaves. Moderate-fine condition.

Rabbi Shlomo Zalman was the son of Rabbi Yosef Landsberg, who served as head of the institutions and dayan in Posen, son of Rabbi Eliyahu Av Beit Din of Landsberg, son of Rabbi Aryeh Leib, sermonizer of Posen, son of the author of Yesod Yosef. Rabbi Shlomo Zalman, who passed away in 1863, was an extremely prolific writer. In addition to the many volumes he left of his own Torah novellae, he would, "with Supreme grace," transcribe his ancestors' books.

His family's sanctity is mentioned in his manuscript (now for sale): My dearly departed mother was born to the Calipari family, daughter of my (many honorifics) grandfather Itzik ztz"l, son of the light of the diaspora, Rabbi Ya'akov z"l, Av Beit Din of Moisling, son of the holy and awesome famous Rabbi Aryeh Leibush. She would conduct herself with purity, careful that every movement be in accordance with halachah. From childhood, she would wake from her sleep to listen to the learning of her righteous father, brother and brothers-in-law. And after joining together with the husband of her youth, to my pure and holy father, ztz"l, who studied most of the night, she ran her home with practiced caution in all the minutiae, and accepted the piety of her husband and his asceticism ..."

Rabbi Yosef Landsberg, who served as a dayan in Posen, was the one who recommended the rabbinate of the city to his relative, Rabbi Akiva Eiger, after the passing of the city's rabbi - the author of Beit Shmuel HaAcharon, in 1807; and he devoted himself to this appointment. R' Shlomo Zalman studied under his distinguished father and Rabbi Aryeh Leib Tzintz and Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Lipshitz, author of Chemdat Shlomo. His son Rabbi Eliyahu was Rabbi Akiva Eiger's primary disciple. Their families later married into each other, when R' Eliyahu married Cherkiche, daughter of Rabbi Avraham Eiger. R' Eliyahu left behind a blessing, the book Mas'et Berachah - Torah novellae, which remains in manuscript.

Of all the works Rabbi Shlomo Zalman left behind, the only one which has been printed is Toar Pnei Shlomo (Krotoschin, 1870).
