Kapote of the Ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund
Floral, lined kapote [overcoat] made of a black silk weave with a floral design, used by the ga'avad of the Edah HaChareidit, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund. Important, holy item which belonged to one of the geonim and tzaddikim of recent generations.
This was the kapote worn regularly by Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund for many years, while he sat at the head of the Ashkenazic Bada"tz, during his prayers, replete with the glory of salvation for one and all, and while he conducted his tisches.
Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Freund [1904-1996] was the ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit. He was born in Hungary to Rabbi Yisrael Freund, Av Beit Din of Hunyad, son of the Admo"r, the gaon, Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Freund of Nasod. Rabbi Moshe Aryeh lost his wife and ten children in the Holocaust. He served for a short time as rabbi of Satmar. He ascended to the Land of Israel and was appointed rosh yeshivah of Yitav Lev, the yeshivah of Satmar Chassidut in Jerusalem. He was appointed ga'avad of the Edah HaCharedit in 1989. He served as Admo"r, presided over a community of Chassidim and conducted tisches. He was considered a gaon, a tzaddik, and a wonder-worker.
Fine condition. Tattered cloth as a result of extensive wear (as described in the confirmation). Two small holes.
Signed confirmation included on a picture of the kapote, attesting that this is the ga'avad's kapote, given to the recipient by the Rebbetzin.
