Zoltan Kruger - Photography Series: Ingathering of the Exiles. Israel, 20th Century
[11] photographs in black-and-white by photographer Zoltan Kluger. Figures from among all strata of emerging Israeli society appear in this photography series.
The photographs are mainly stamped by the "East Press Photography Society" (see below) and some are stamped with an additional ink stamp. Some of the photographs are captioned and dated in handwriting on the reverse.
Zoltan (Tzvi) Kluger [1896-1977] was one of the central photographers of pre-state Israel. His photographs document "The state on its way" and its residents from almost every possible angle and location. The East Press Photography Society (which is stamped on the back of these photographs) was unique in the landscape of Israeli photography and supplied most of the photographs to the central Zionist bodies. Kluger was a partner and head photographer in the society, and became the leading photographer of the the process of establishing the yishuv until the establishment of the state.
Kluger left a large collection behind, divided to this day the among large public archives in Israel such as the UIA collection in the Central Zionist Archives, the Government Press Office, the State Archives and the IDF archives.
