Jerusalem Convoy Driver's Pin - Passover - 1948, dimensions: 48x20 mm
The convoys to Jerusalem were the main means of transport to Jerusalem besieged during the early months of the War of Independence. The main weak point of Jewish Jerusalem and its surrounding communities were the traffic routes to them, which moved through Arab settlement areas, and were essential for transferring supplies from the lowlands and the coastal plain. Irregular Arab forces attempted to take control of traffic routes to prevent supplies to the city and its surrounding communities, and as early as December 1947, Jewish vehicles were attacked on the Jerusalem - Tel Aviv route, and the security forces' travel caravan was programmed, in some cases also by security forces. British Forces. Over time, the traffic in the western part of the road (between Tel Aviv and Latrun) switched to bypass routes but there was no substitute for the eastern part, between the Gate
and Jerusalem. The road to Jerusalem was blocked and interrupted intermittently, and the convoys that went up to it suffered many attacks and casualties. Convoys were also attacked from the city to the surrounding Jewish communities.
